Reliance Jio to deliver 6 million units of JioPhone starting Sunday
As per a channel partner of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, the JioPhone delivery will start on Sunday and go on for the next 15 days. The delivery of the JioPhone will begin initially in the rural areas and towns before the urban areas, claims a PTI report. It quotes the channel partner stating, "The Chairman (Mukesh Ambani) had said that the JioPhone will bridge digital divide between rural and urban India. Therefore, delivery of JioPhone will start this Sunday in rural areas and small towns." However, Reliance Jio seems to be tight-lipped regarding the same. Also, the source revealed that the first lot of delivery will comprise of six million units and will be completed in 10 to 15 days starting from Sunday. The date when the next round of booking of the device will debut remains to be unknown. According to a recent report by CyberMedia Research, overall 61.8 million mobiles were shipped in Q2 2017. If Reliance Jio manages to ship six million units of its JioPhone in the coming days, then this will account for 10% of the overall mobile phone market in one quarter.Given that the JioPhone is available for free of cost and bundles unlimited data and voice calls for a month at just Rs. 153, the phone is one of the valuable offerings in the market. Also, it has smart features such as pre-loaded Jio apps, voice commands, and more that we have not seen in the feature phones before. Those who have pre-booked the JioPhone in August by paying Rs. 500, which is a refundable deposit, should pay the pending Rs. 1,000 when the device is delivered to them. The entire amount of Rs. 1,500 will be refunded on returning the phone after three years.
