NEW DELHI: Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun has confirmed the date on which the company will be launching its Redmi Note 5A smartphone. Jun, on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging website posted an image along with the caption, indicating the device to get launched in China on August 21. While the first image revealed the time and date of the launch, the second image shared by the CEO clearly showed the smartphone from the front and back.

The Redmi Note 5A, as per the image, plays on the same design as the current Redmi 4A but with slight changes. The device will still have three capacitive buttons at the front, single rear camera on top left corner along with LED flash and a fingerprint sensor at the centre. However, the placement of the antenna and speaker will differ. It is seen in three colours - Rose Gold, Gold and Silver. The post reveals nothing else about the upcoming device.




According to a recent report by the Slashleaks website, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A will be priced at 999 Yuan, which roughly translates to Rs 9,500. As per the report, the upcoming Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A sports a 5.5-inch HD 720p display. It will be powered by 1.4Ghz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC, coupled with 2GB RAM. The smartphone will offer 16GB storage and will run Android 7.1 Nougat.


Also mentioned is that the smartphone will be backed by a 3,080mAh battery and will feature a 13MP primary camera and a 5MP selfie camera. However, everything will soon be confirmed given the launch date.


Last week, Xiaomi took the wraps off its 5X smartphone along with MIUI 9. The Mi 5X only comes in one RAM and storage version 4GB+64GB and costs CNY 1,499, which is roughly Rs 14,200. The highlight of the device is its dual rear camera. This is the company's second smartphone after the Mi 6 to sport two rear cameras. Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain has also teased the arrival of "Xiaomi's first dual-camera phone in India" for next month.
